Retreats
Why A Retreat?
Are
you getting maximum performance from your management team?
Ask yourself these questions:
- Are you taking your senior management
team and/or board of directors away on a regular basis
to strategize the organization's future?
- On your retreats, do you set and
achieve your objectives for the session?
- Do you have a good balance between
fun and getting results?
- Are you infusing your leadership
with the latest in management theories and practices?
- Do you leave your retreats with
a clear sense of direction, focus, and how to move forward?
- Do your retreats have real impact
on the real work of your organization ?
If
you answered "no" to any of these questions, you
are not taking full advantage of your management team's
capabilities and possibly under-performing as
an organization.
 |
Our
experience with many organizations is that the annual
retreat can be an extremely effective management
tool that builds consensus among
the management team while focusing on key
strategic issues. Experience also tells
us that the use of an outside facilitator can take
your retreat to another
level altogether. But whether this happens depends
on facilitators that have the knowledge
base, the facilitation skills, and a strong desire
to exceed a client's expectations. We can provide
these for you.

What You Get
The
annual retreat has long been
recognized as a vital component of an organization's long
term performance. It can be used to:
- Clarify and articulate the vision
of the organization
- Discuss significant trends
and possible responses
- Provide an honest self-assessment
of the organization
- Gain a consensus on key
issues and map out plans to address them
- Provide a format for training
of key staff members
- Kick off the annual planning
process
- Build a sense of teamwork
and camaraderie
- Revitalize commitment and
energy to the organization's mission
But effective,
meaningful retreats
don't just happen. They require careful planning, a commitment
of time and resources, and high impact facilitation that
keeps the group on track and moving toward desired goals.

How We Do It
Bill
Lindsley & Co. can ensure your retreat
is a profitable, challenging and fulfilling
experience. We can help you design a format
and agenda that will meet your organization's
particular needs. We can help you locate retreat
sites and even plan the entire event if
you wish.
Our
typical process starts with one-on-one, confidential
interviews with retreat
participants. We may also gather additional data
to assess the situation. We then
sit down with the senior management to determine the retreat
objectives and agenda.
 |
The actual retreat
process typically involves a combination of meetings
using the entire group as well as smaller
breakout sessions. This process is crucial
in getting critical input from every
participant and encouraging ownership of
the final product. Depending on the length of the
retreat,
we may build in some recreational time for the group,
which aids the creative process and builds camaraderie.
Generally, some amount of training is built into the
process, based on the specific needs of the planning
team. |
Following
the retreat,
you receive a report outlining the results,
along with appropriate observations and recommendations. Participants
are surveyed for feedback. This
information is provided to management as well.
We
are available to perform any follow-up services
as needed; from leading or facilitating the planning process,
to market research,
coaching
and training.
